Malcolm R. Sullivan Sr. started Sullivan Heating Company in April of 1946, setting up shop in an unheated garage with one additional employee. Projects were hard to come by in those days with coal fired furnaces and boilers being the standard equipment for heating homes. Duct Work installations were very new to the industry.  Mr. Sullivan's honest approach to the people of Shenandoah and the surrounding areas opened opportunities to expand the business. Plumbing was added, followed closely by air conditioning. A transformation from residential to commercial construction commenced in 1966 and the name was changed to Sullivan Mechanical Contractors Inc. Over the years, Sullivan has been declared a preferred contractor for the University of Virginia's Medical and Collegiate Grounds as well as Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Sullivan has completed jobs from the Va Coast into West Virginia and at a time had offices open in Richmond Va. and Virginia Beach. The Commercial Construction Industry has changed greatly over the last 76 years, Sullivan's Family Owned, Family Operated, commitment to Quality has proven steadfast in a changing world.
